The Heat is On in Central Georgia!

The Heat is On in Central Georgia!

There is no doubt about it…it has been a hot week here in Central Georgia! We have been in the 90s every day so far and today will be no different. We hit 91 on Monday, 95 Tuesday and Wednesday, and had a record high of 96 yesterday. Brace yourself for lower 90s this afternoon...May I recommend a dip in the pool? :)

I know Georgia is supposed to be hot, but not this hot this early! The average high for the middle of May is 82 and even average highs in August are only in the lower 90s!

But don’t worry, I have good news! We’ll cool back down into the 80s over the weekend. On top of that, we have a good chance of rain tomorrow. The only down side is that we could have some strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. We are hoping that severe threat doesn’t pan out for us, because all we really want is the rain! So Mother Nature, turn on the air conditioning and the water faucet…we are ready!!

Program Your Weather Radio for Your County

You can customize your weather radio to receive alerts specific to your county.

The code for Laurens County is: 013175.

WMAZ has teamed up with Kroger to make NOAA weather radios available for $29.99.

You can purchase a NOAA weather radio in customer service. These radios give you the ability to pick up severe weather watches and warnings for your counties or numerous counties in the area. Each county has a SAME code, which needs to be programmed into your radio.

The Ring Around the Sun: Explained.

The Ring Around the Sun: Explained.

Many of you may see a prominent ring or "halo" around the sun today.

According to astronomers, these halos are caused by ice crystals in the cirrus clouds high up in the atmosphere.

Do be careful if you are trying to view this phenomenon in the sky because even the shortest exposure to sunlight directly into your eyes could cause permanent eye damage.
