The Dodge County Middle School Grappling Warriors will host the first annual Tomahawk Middle School Duals on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Dodge County High School Gym, 350 Pearl Bates Rd, Eastman, GA. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. and will host eight middle school wrestling teams from across Georgia.

Dublin-441 Speedway will host it's first annual  "Winter Spectacular" stock car race Dec. 28th & 29th at  the  popular 3/8 miles clay oval.  Special events will be the Georgia Pawn & Gold Crate Late Models paying $2,500 to win, with an additional GRW Competition Engines $200.00 to the fastest qualifier.

Next will be Pitts Toyota Scion Southern Outlaw Super Street Series paying a record $2,000 to win!!!!! Races in Pure Stock, Bomber, Road Warrior, & 440's will also be held.

Dodge Co. Grappling Indians Compete in West Laurens Invitational

Dodge County Grappling Indians recently competed in the West Laurens Invitational in Dexter, GA.

Several wrestlers turned in impressive performances against a very tough bracket filled with seasoned wrestlers from as far north as Chattooga, GA. and as far south as Flagler Beach, Fl. In all sixteen teams competed in fourteen different weight classes during the two day competition. Turning in the team’s most impressive performance was freshman Aaron Spires wrestling in the 285 lbs weight class. He recorded four pins against only defeat during the tournament.

Winning three out five during the weekend was senior co-captain Michael Wrease, 132 lbs,  and sophomore Tyler Gruben, at 220 lbs. Senior grappler Zach Flagg at 152 lbs and freshman J.T, Shields pulled out two wins against three defeats in two of the toughest weight classes in the tournament. Also competing for the Indians was Brandon Roland, 126 lbs; Shea Powell, 145 lbs; and JaQuan Mann, 160 lbs.

The December 17 basketball game between West Laurens Middle School and Bleckley County Middle School has been moved to December 12. 

Tip time remains 4 p.m. in Cochran.

'Race for Grace' 5K Set for Thanksgiving Morning

'Race for Grace' 5K Set for Thanksgiving Morning

Some Central Georgians won't gobble until they wobble on Thanksgiving Day thanks to the "Race for Grace" Half-Marathon, 12K, 6K and one mile run.

That takes place at Marie Baptist Church. Registration for the half-marathon is $35 and the other races are $25 to participate.

Proceeds benefit Teen Challenge Middle GA, a Christian residential program for men struggling with things like drugs and alcohol. 

The half-marathon begins at 7 a.m. and the 6K and one-mile run start at 9 a.m.

Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, Fla., captured the GRW Competition Engines pole position on Friday night Nov. 2nd, won the 15-lap dash for cash, then cruised to victory Sat. night Nov. 3rd at Dublin-441 Speedway in the first annual Arlene Pittman Memorial Race.

Ivey, in His first appearance at 441 two years ago won, then repeated Sat. night. Evan Becton of Valdosta, Brandon Dewitt of Barney, Ga. and Hunter Peacock of Macon, battled furiously the last three laps, finishing 2, 3, 4. Jordy Nipper of Macon, Ga. placed 5th.

The 25-car field was red flagged near the midway point when Phil Pittman crashed into turn, landing upside down. Pittman walked away unhurt. This race was race # 7 for the American Dirt Late Model "Super 7" Series, that saw Chaz Haskins of Gray, Ga. win the 2012 Series Championship. Dublin--441 ended the season with this race. The 2013 season begins in the spring.
