Arlene Pittman Memorial Stock Car Race Results

 

Richie Stevens of Phoenix City, Ala., slipped past Jimmy Sharpe, Jr., of Soperton, Ga. with 5 laps remaining to capture the 2nd Annual Arlene Pittman Memorial Race At Dublin-441 Speedway Sat. night. Daniel Roland of Thomson was third, Tyler Brown of Monroe was fourth, and Wrightsville's Jottie Burgamy placed 5th.

Another historical race at the 46 yr. old clay oval  with 16 yr. old Jesse Ivey of Kite, a student at Johnson County High School performing our National Anthem, and Stevens winning His first career Southern Outlaw Super Street Series Feature at 441. Next Sat. the Crates return to race for $1,000 to win, Pitts Toyota Scion Late Models will also pay $1,000 to win, along with other regular divisions. Dodge County Night at the Races This Weekend

Dublin-441 Speedway will present "Dodge County Night at the Races" this Sat. April 6th sponsored by Shorty's Quik Stop  Convenience Stores/Shorty's Car Washes of Eastman. You may register at any Shorty's Quik Stops in Eastman for FREE tickets to this event, now through Thur. April 4th. 

Drawings will be  Friday April 5th.  "This will be the first of it's kind at the Speedway. Shorty Bearden has been a stock car racing friend to many people through the years, and We are excited about Him assisting Us in a Salute to Dodge County Citizens for Their support through the years for this special event" stated Speedway Public Relations Director Willis Wombles. Races will be held in all divisions: Pitts Toyota Scion Late Models, Georgia Sports Arena Super Street, Vidalia Auto Salvage Pure Stock, Bombers & 440's Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00 p.m.

With rain threatening tonight's Braves game, Twitter has been buzzing with rhymes and catchprases. @cannonsimp had a great idea: let's come up with a catchphrase similar to "Spahn and Sain, and pray for rain" for today's team.  So I did:

Huddy, Maholm, Minor, and Kris,
And when they're done, our Rookie of the Year.
You don't want to face a lineup like this.

Becton Captures Pitts Toyota Scion St. Patrick's "100" at Dublin-441 Speedway

 

A huge crowd of spectators and participants watched as Evan Becton of Valdosta, Ga., grabbed the lead from pole sitter Robert Diekemper of Bloomingdale, Ga. on the green flag lap, then cruised to victory in the Pitts Toyota Scion St. Patrick's "100" Late Model Race at Dublin-441 Speedway last Sat. night. 

Kiekemper followed Him across the finish line, followed by Steven Roberts of Sylvester, Ga., Austin Scarboro of Swainsboro, and Steven Bloodworh of McIntyre, Ga. A fierce battle on the white flag lap saw Brandon Overton of Appling, Ga.brake a steering wheel while racing hard for third place.

Abby Greer Wins National Gymnastics Challenge

Greer Wins All-Around Title

The Annual National Gymnastics Challenge is held on the beautiful campus of University of Georgia playing host to 1,200 young girls from across the nation. 

Recently, one of Dodge County’s own competed in the competition earning the highest All-Around score. Abby Greer, who for the past five years has competed for Emerald City Artistic Sports in Dublin, GA earned her second national All-Around title by placing first on balance beam, first on uneven bars, third on floor exercise, and seventh on vault.

Abby will compete at the Georgia State Championships later this month and hopes to be one of six girls who will represent the Georgia State Team at the USA Gymnastics Regionals in South Carolina.
