Monroe Moves from Classroom to Pharmacy Internship

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) Pharmacy Technology student Janice Monroe is putting her education to work during her internship at GAYCO Healthcare, a long-term care pharmacy in Dublin, GA.

"The pharmacy technician is a vital part of the daily operations at any pharmacy," explains OFTC Pharmacy Technology Instructor Jack Shepherd. "During a class field trip on April 16th, our students visited various pharmacy settings – including GAYCO Healthcare in Dublin – and saw the skills they are learning in action."

Janice will complete her internship in May and is set to complete her diploma with the upcoming summer semester.

OFTC Students Work TeenMaze

Students from several program areas at Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) participated in the Teen Maze held at the Washington County Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA in Sandersville, on Monday, March 18, 2013.

The purpose of the event was to show 10th and 11th graders a prevention and awareness event meant to highlight, in a controlled and safe environment, the consequences of decisions that teenagers will face in high school and college.

The Teen Maze had an emphasis on underage drinking/drug use and sexual behaviors (abstinence, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases). The event also focused on healthy lifestyles and nutrition, as well as, graduation and career planning.

MGSC Opens Center for Non-Traditional Students

Middle Georgia State College is launching a Center for Adult Learners (CAL) to help more non-traditional students earn their degrees.

The center, based on the Macon Campus on the third floor of the Education Building, will hold a grand opening at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. Some of the students the center will serve will be in attendance.

The center, supported through College Access Challenge Grant funds awarded to Georgia by the U.S. Department of Education, will serve as a “one-stop-shop” that non-traditional students can turn to when they want to begin degree programs or complete those they started in the past.

Easter Bunny to Appear at Speedway This Weekend

Stock car races were rained out at Dublin-441 Speedway last Sat. Mar. 23rd. This week race # 3 of the Pure Stock Mini Series will be presented along with regular racing in Late Model, Super Street, Bomber, Pure Stock & 440's. Also, the Easter Bunny will arrive at the speedway around 7 p.m. and remain there until 10:00 p.m.

The Bunny will give out prizes to all young kids, including a bonus prize to some little one.

Bring the kids enjoy the Bunny and racing on Ga's. Finest 3/8 mile dirt oval!!! OFTC Celebrates Women in History Month

The Student Government Association at Oconee Fall Line Technical College held a program honoring Women in History on Tuesday, March 19th at its South Campus in Dublin.

The program included former OFTC graduates who spoke about their experiences at the college and in the workforce that have propelled them to success.

Barbara Martin, an OFTC Early Childhood Care and Education graduate, spoke about the role of working women throughout history and their success. She shared her story of going back to college, graduating and opening her own daycare center. Barbara owns KIDS Kingdom Day Care Center in Dublin with a second center in Dublin to open in late March.

Dawn Tripp, an OFTC Air Conditioning Technology graduate, talked about barriers she has faced and overcome working in a mostly male-dominated field. Dawn and her husband own Indoor Climate Control & Refrigeration, Inc. in Eastman, Georgia, where she is a service technician.

TCSG Honors 28 Adult Learners with the 2013 EAGLE Award

Atlanta – The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) recently honored 28 of Georgia’s adult learners from throughout the state for their exceptional accomplishments and outstanding participation in the state’s adult education program.

Each year, the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Award recognizes the educational achievement and outstanding leadership skills demonstrated by students who are in the process of studying for or have earned their GED® credential. The 28 EAGLE students were honored during the EAGLE Institute banquet at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta on March 19.
