The Adult Education department of Oconee Fall Line Technical College will host a “Walk It Out for Literacy“ 5K, 10K and 1 mile fun run/walk on Saturday, September 8th beginning at the Citizens Bank of Washington County parking lot in Sandersville. Registration on the day of the event begins at 7 a.m., but pre-registration is encouraged.

"The week of September 12th is Literacy Week in Georgia, and this event will raise awareness of literacy in our community," said Saketha Williams, OFTC Dean of Adult Education. "Proceeds from these races will provide support to adult education programs in our community and also scholarships for students. "

The registration form can be found online at www.OFTC.edu/WalkItOut to sign up for the 5K, 10K or the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. The pre-registration cost for adults is $20 for the 5K or 10K or $35 for both. For entrants under the age of 19, the pre-registration cost is $15 for the 5K or 10K or $25 for both. After August 24th and on the day of the race, registration is $25 for all ages for the 5K or 10K or $40 for both races.

The 1-Mile Run/Walk entry fee is $15.

All participants and phantom runners who register by August 24th will receive a “Walk It Out for Literacy” t-shirt. T-shirts for late registrants are not guaranteed. 

Please make out your check to The OFTC Foundation – North and mail or drop off to OFTC, Attn: Walk It Out, 1189 DeepstepRoad, Sandersville, GA 31082. Race fees are tax deductible. The OFTC Foundation – North, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.

On the day of the event, registration begins at 7 a.m., with the 5K beginning at 8 a.m., the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m., and the 10K at 9:00 a.m.

Medals will be awarded to overall male and female 5k and 10K winners and the top 3 finishers in each age group. Age groups are 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, & 70+.

Proceeds will be used toward GED® scholarships, health literacy, ESOL (English as a Second Language), and many other educational opportunities at OFTC adult education programs in Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Warren and Washington Counties.

OFTC’s Adult Education Program teaches adults the concepts, knowledge, and skills necessary to access information, voice their ideas and opinions, and act independently as parents, citizens, and workers for the good of their families, communities, and nation.
