A group of technical college executives from across Georgia have been honored as graduates of the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) Executive Leadership Academy.

Tammy Bayto, Dean of Allied Health and Professional Services at Oconee Fall Line Technical College, was among the 27 academy graduates who were congratulated by TSCG Commissioner Ron Jackson during a dinner in Savannah on May 13, 2014.

“The TCSG Executive Leadership Academy is entirely focused on developing the next great leaders for Georgia’s technical colleges,” said Commissioner Ron Jackson. “The academy’s programs provide our rising executives with unique opportunities to increase their knowledge of the TCSG while also obtaining valuable leadership experience.”

Participation in the academy is highly selective and by invitation only. Bayto was nominated to attend the academy by OFTC President Dr. Lloyd Horadan and then approved by the Executive Leadership Academy’s board of directors.

The academy lasts for nine months and is designed to acquaint participants with the leadership and managerial responsibilities of TCSG executives. While the program is specifically geared to the policies and procedures of the TCSG, the curriculum is sufficiently broad in scope to have application to public two-year colleges in any state and includes topics ranging from ethics and operations to institutional effectiveness, accreditation, strategic planning, legal issues, and much more.

“I was able to network with many new people around the state and build relationships that will last throughout my career within TCSG,” said Bayto. “I gained a broader and more complete understanding of how TCSG operates and the many benefits TCSG provides to workforce and economic development throughout the state.”

Director of Human Resources Sharon O’Neal and Dean of Adult Education Dr. Saketha Adams, will be the next administrators to represent Oconee Fall Line Technical College at the Executive Leadership Academy. The 2014 class kicked off July 16 with two-to-three day sessions each month (except for December) through April of 2015.
