Rev. Jerry Martin 1947-2013

Reverend Jerry Martin celebrated his 66th birthday with his Lord and Savior after entering Heaven on March 27th following a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Dublin, Georgia, March 28, 1947. He attended Dublin High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was called into the ministry in January 1977, serving as pastor of Baker Baptist, Mt. Carmel Baptist and Minter Baptist churches.

Tucker James Slaughter

Services for Tucker James Slaughter, age 15 of Dexter, will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at West Laurens High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow in Dexter Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Calvin Halcomb and Coach Brian Brown will officiate. 

Tucker was a member of Dexter Baptist Church and was a wonderful Christian. He was a member of the West Laurens High School Baseball Team and he loved to hunt and fish. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Tucker passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013.

Carrie Irene Johnson Wheeler

Carrie Irene Johnson Wheeler, age 91, passed away on February 24, 2013 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon. A Memorial service will be held at Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street on February 27, 2013 at 12:00PM, with The Reverends Jody and Julie Long officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. Ms. Wheeler was born on April 12, 1921 in Sparta, Georgia and graduated from Sparta High School in 1939. She moved to Macon in 1947 where she was employed at Robins AFB in what was then the Directorate of Procurement. Ms. Wheeler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Christ and the Believer’s Sunday School Class. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, crafts, gardening, and shopping. She was an avid bridge player and a regular follower of Atlanta Braves baseball. Ms.

Four people died and nine were injured in an accident that involved 27 vehicles on I-16 in Laurens County Wednesday.

Eugene Long


Funeral services for Mr. Eugene T. Long, 76, of Twiggs County who died Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Dublin will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Moore officiating. Burial will be in ElSharath Cemetery.

Mr. Long was a lifelong resident of Twiggs County, the son of the late John Lee Long and Lois Viola Hill Long Carswell. He was retired from Twiggs County Road Department and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Hogan and Annie Mae Hill Long and a brother, John Willie Long.

Survivors include a brother, Jeff (Debra) Long of Cochran; sisters, Mary Ellen Long and Thelma Lee (Willie) Long, both of Twiggs County, Annie (Arthur) Jackson of Danville and Margie (George) Bowen of Cochran.

The family will meet friends following the service.
