Dublin-Laurens County Leaders to Study Consolidation

Dublin Mayor Phil Best confirmed that the city of Dublin and Laurens County's leaders will move forward with a study about consolidating governments.

Best said, "The study project will be funded by the Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce and other indivduals and conducted by the University of Georgia."

"That study hasn't started, but we will soon," Best added.

Best told 13WMAZ that the Dublin City Council recently gave their support of the idea of a study.

When asked how unification could impact the town of East Dublin, Best seemed uncertain if that community would be part of the study or any consolidation plan.

Leaders in Milledgeville-Baldwin County recently completed a study on consolidation and could ask voters to approve a plan soon.

And Macon-Bibb County will consolidate beginning January 2014, after voters approved the plan in 2012.

The Government Shutdown: Contacting your Federal Leaders

During the partial government shutdown and the rollout of the Affordable Healthcare Act, many have heard calls to "contact your congressional representative".

So how do you go about that, at a time when many government agencies and offices are hobbled by increased workloads and reduced staff?

13WMAZ Thursday went online and took to the phones to contact Washington offices for all congressmen representing Central Georgia as well as the state's two senators.  While we were at it, we checked out the White House's website too.

Frank Malloy explains what we found.

Meanwhile, here are the phone listings for your representatives:

Rep. John Barrow (D) District 12- (202) 225-2823

Rep. Sanford Bishop (D) District 2- (202) 225-3631

Rep. Paul Broun (R) District 10- (202) 225-4101

Rep. Austin Scott (R) District 8- (202) 225-6531
