Dublin-Laurens Tourism Council Announces 2014 Board of Directors

Recently, the Dublin-Laurens Tourism Council confirmed its Board of Directors and Officers for 2014. Appointed by various authorities and organizations across Laurens County, the Board of Directors develops and implements action plans to increase tourist visits to Laurens County, Georgia through promotion, marketing, resource development and enrichment, and promoting investment in local assets, resources, and infrastructure, such as parks, museums, convention centers, historic districts, restaurants, and events to attract potential visitors.

'Honey Boo Boo's' "Pumpkin" admitted to hospital after accident

According to Honey Boo Boo's official Facebook page, Lauryn Shannon, known as "Pumpkin" on the show, was admitted to the hospital late Sunday night after apparently not improving.

That Facebook page is run by Mama June and a family friend.

Her mother writes that "This week has been so crazy with the wreck and dealing with her post severe concussion stuff and trying to get her back to normal..."

“In fulfilling our mission to promote smart policies, thoughtful leadership and deeper civic engagement throughout Georgia, I’m excited to announce the second year of Young Gamechangers,” says Howard Franklin, Executive Director of GeorgiaForward.  “Our participants’ careers span arts & culture, business, finance, education, non-profit, government, law, urban planning and economic development. They have plenty to offer both Georgia and Dublin, Laurens County. We’re excited to be in a community on the precipice of monumental changes, and that offers challenges that can be creatively solved by the state’s next generation of leaders.”

Bleckley girls hang on for win in split with West Laurens

The Lady Royals led West Laurens by 11 in the third quarter Saturday at home.  It was cut to six by the fourth.  BC had just two baskets as the Lady Raiders got within four with under three minutes left.  WLHS scored four points in the final two minutes as BC won 54-46.  Dewanda Blackshear scored 22.  Tia Troup added 13.

Down ten to begin the fourth, the Royals got within six but could not sustain the comeback and lost 71-58.  D'Andre Pitts scored 16.  Shaunkendrick Brown had 11.

Bleckley plays at Taylor County Tuesday.  JV girls tip at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

Brooke Mullis Named Dublin Visitors Center Manager

Dublin-Laurens Tourism Council, Inc. has promoted Brooke Mullis to the position of Visitors Center Manager. A graduate of West Laurens High School, Mullis attends Middle Georgia State College and is majoring in business. Formerly, Mullis served as program assistant to Tara Bradshaw, Director of Main Street Dublin and Dublin Downtown Development Authority, where she fell in love with Dublin’s downtown. “As Visitors Center Manager, I can put my love for downtown to work and drive people to attractions throughout Laurens County. I love interacting with new people and learning their lives: where they have been and what they have experienced. I want to make sure each person experiences Dublin, the nature, shopping, eating, neat attractions and activities for kids."
