Prescription 'Take Back Day' Scheduled for Saturday

Central Georgians can rid home medicine cabinets of unused, potentially dangerous medications at four locations Saturday.

During the Drug Enforcement Administration's national Take Back Day program, drug disposal sites will be set up across the state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can find the nearest site by visiting www.dea.gov , clicking on "Drug Disposal" and "Got Drugs?", and following the links to a database and entering their ZIP codes. The service is free and anonymous.

This will be the fifth take-back day. People participating in the four previous events over the last two years turned in 1.6 million pounds of prescription drugs nationwide.

Harry Sommers, special agent in charge of the DEA's Atlanta Field Division, says these events can help stop prescription drug abuse.

In Central Georgia, drugs will be collected at these locations.

Wal-Mart, 5955 Zebulon Road, Macon, Bibb County Sheriff's Department;
Eatonton Police Department, 214 West Marion St., Eatonton;
Oconee Drug Task Force, 327 Pearl Bates Ave., Eastman;
Crisp County Sheriff's Office, 196 Hwy 300 South, Cordele.
