Computer Lab to Open in Dublin Public Housing

On January 25, Achieve HighPoints and the Dublin Housing Authority will open a new computer lab at the housing complex to serve the academic needs of students living in public housing, a news release says.

Achieve HighPoints will host an event from 4pm to 6pm, on Jan. 25, to officially launch the computer lab and to distribute laptop computers to students who have signed up for its online math tutoring program.

The event takes place at the Verline P. Copenny Center, located at 205 W. Mary Street in Dublin. WFXM Power 107.1 FM radio station is co-sponsoring the event.

“We are pleased to help the children living in this community by providing them with free online math tutoring and laptop computers for the duration of the program,” said Dontia White, Achieve HighPoints franchise owner. “This collaboration with the Dublin Housing Authority will make a positive difference for these underserved students.”

Health Festival Fair to be at Dublin Mall

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, mall-goers can visit the booths at the health fair.

Individuals and families can gain information into blood pressure and healthy eating.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Dublin Mall.

Arts Council to Welcome Broadway Star

 John Davidson, a certifiable television, theatre, film and Broadway star,  will perform at the Dublin Theatre in February.

His performance will begin at 7:30 p.m on February 17.

Davidson will present an up close and personal vocal and banjo performance of his favorite songs and stories from his career, the Dublin Laurens Art Council website says.

On Broadway, Davidson starred in The Hallmark Hall Of Fame version of The Fantasticks and received The Theatre Guild Award for his portrayal of Curly in the Broadway revival of Oklahoma.

OCMA Kidz to Perform at Dublin Theatre

The Oconee Community Mentoring Association mentees (OCMA Kidz) will perform music that was influenced by the Civil Rights movement.

The OCMA Kidz will do impressions of artists such as Sam Cooke, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and will also do a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Georgia Power volunteers to help community

WHAT:                   Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the service of others.  In honor of his legacy, Georgia Power employees will use Monday, January 17, a company holiday, for volunteer service and community enhancement.

Employees in the Central Region will commemorate the day by volunteering with local community organizations.

WHERE:          Dublin

Volunteers are partnering with Community and Schools to paint several rooms at the old Dublin High School on Calhoun St.  beginning at 8:30 a.m.
