Registration for Georgia GO Fish Bobberthon Fishing Tournament Begins Today

Ready, set…Go Fish!

Register today for the GO Fish Georgia Bobberthon fishing tournament and get ready to GO Fish for fun and prizes beginning April 16.

Beginning April 16 through June 11, 2011, the Dodge County Public Fishing Area will be stocked with up to 200 bream in anticipation of a new regional fishing tournament, called the Bobberthon. Bream will be tagged in the Dodge County PFA, Flat Creek PFA, Hugh Gillis PFA and Ocmulgee PFA.  Anglers can register at community vendors in order to participate in the tournament.  If an angler catches a tagged fish, they will return the tag to the vendor in which they registered.   All anglers that catch a tagged fish are guaranteed a prize and will be registered for the Grand Tournament. 

Silver Spur Annual Spring Trail Ride

On April 1, there will be a trailride.

Adults are $20; Ages 6-15 $10; Children 5 and under are free.

The ride Fee includes lunch, camping sites with electrical and water hookups.

The electricity $7 per night.

There are clean bathhouses with restrooms and hot showers, a food Vendor on site; Ride starts at 10 a.m. Saturday; Trail Horse Challenge 4 p.m. on Saturday; Dance 9 p.m. Saturday night with DJ Jim Wells.

The trailride will begin in 1549 New Evergreen Rd., off Hwy 80 in East Dublin.

Laurens Co. Census Data: What You Expected?

Memory Walk for Seniors

During the St. Patrick's Festival, a St. Patrick's Memory Walk for Seniors will take place at the Dublin Mall Center Court.

The event is planned for March 10 at 10 a.m.

Adults can enter for $5 and children participate for free.

Advocates for Alzheimer's Care is sponsoring the event.

Festival Awards Banquet to Honor Nominated Citizens

The 46th Annual St. Patrick's Festival Awards Banquet will recognize four different people: Woman of the Year, Man of the Year, Youth of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year.

People in the community fill out applications to nominate individuals for the awards. A selection committee is appointed to review the applications and select a winner for each category.

The winners are kept secret until they are announced at the banquet.

The cost to attend is still being determined.

Food will be served.

Award winners will receive a car magnet and will also be featured in the St. Patrick's Festival parade.

The award banquet is scheduled for March 3 at 7 p.m. at the Dublin Country Club.

Sen. Tolleson Offers Mechanism to Fund Water Projects

Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) has introduced a bill that creates new options for financing water projects in communities throughout the state. 

That is according to a Senate Press Office news release.

The Georgia Public/Private Water Supply Act of 2011 (Senate Bill 122) will allow state and local governments to voluntarily partner with private investors on the construction of reservoirs and other water infrastructure projects.

Upper Oconee Planning Meetings Scheduled

The Upper Oconee Regional Water Planning Council plans to hold a series of meetings.

These meetings will focus on the preliminary draft Water Conservation and Development Plan with local government and utilities.

The purpose of the meetings is to gain initial input and feedback from groups that will have primary responsibility for implementing the recommendations in the preliminary draft of the regional water plan.

The three meetings are scheduled for:

February 8 from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Bobby M. Snipes Resources Center, located at 780 Barber St. in Athens.

February 10 from 9 until 11 a.m. in the Legislative Chambers at Georgia Military College, located at 201 Greene St. in Milledgeville.

February 10 from 3 until 5 p.m. in the McGrath Keen Sr Community Center, located at 1200 Bellevue Ave. in Dublin.
