Wheeler County Inmate is Back in Custody | Crime
According to the Wheeler County Sheriff's Office, escaped inmate Raymond Rod Solomon is back in custody Wednesday night.
Wheeler Sheriff Maurice Johnson said police got a tip around 7:30 pm that led to his capture. Solomon escaped from the booking area in the Wheeler County Jail Tuesday.
Johnson said Solomon walked a long distance from the jail, but they're not sure how he got to Hazelhurst where he has family.
The sheriff rode with Solomon to the hospital, but said the inmate didn't speak very much.
"He made maybe two or three statements, but he was real dehydrated, sleepy, mumbling, couldn't really understand what he was saying," said Johnson
Solomon went missing Tuesday around 5:30 in the afternoon. He was serving time for trafficking methamphetamine, according to a news release.
Sheriffs offices from at least four counties helped with the search by ground and air, as well as the Georgia State Patrol, GBI and U.S. Marshals.
