Georgia State Retirees to Meet in Dublin | Community Spirit
--Submitted by Brenda Woodard
For the past several months, locally retired employees with the State of Georgia have been meeting in Dublin to consider forming a local membership chapter of the Georgia State Retirees Association (GSRA). The next meeting will be held at the Laurens County Library on Bellevue Ave in Dublin on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Representative Bubber Epps, District 140, will be the speaker at this meeting. Rep. Epps is a member of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee with the Georgia House of Representatives.
The Georgia State Retirees Association (GSRA) is an organization focused on keeping retirees and prospective retirees from all parts of Georgia Government well informed about changes in promised retiree and health insurance benefits. The local chapter would be open not only to Laurens County retirees but to those in surrounding areas. Membership is not limited to those strictly within the area which will be defined after the decision for becoming a chapter has been made. Spouses and widows/widowers as well as current employees have a stake in the retirement fund and are invited to attend the meetings along with any retiree of Georgia Government.
The local chapter will offer an opportunity to advocate retiree’s positions and hold local area legislators accountable. The local chapter will also provide opportunities for members to gather socially, to be educated and to rally for action. GSRA members will also receive education concerning their benefits and equally important, educating the State elected officials at a local level about the member’s concerns and issues. Membership provides a voice, at the local level, regarding activities that affect their well-being.
