Title (Max 100 Characters)
The OFTC Foundation-South, Inc. selected Blaine Hester of Dudley as the recipient of the Johnny B. Howard Scholarship. Annually the scholarship is awarded to an Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) student enrolled in the Welding and Joining Program. Priority is given to West Laurens High School students and graduates. Hester graduated from West Laurens High School in May of 2014 and began his studies at OFTC during the fall semester.
The scholarship is given in memory of Johnny Buford Howard, a life-long resident of Laurens County and former instructor at Heart of Georgia Technical College for nine years. Howard died in July 2007.
“The Johnny Howard Scholarship was established by the Foundation and the employees of the College in Johnny’s memory,” said Jenny Shuman, executive director, OFTC Foundation-South, Inc. “Members of the community have also supported the scholarship and have embraced the opportunity to honor Johnny and help students in the Welding Program. Johnny would have been very proud to know there is a scholarship to help educate future welders, and Blaine is an excellent choice to receive the scholarship.”
