Practical Nursing students at Oconee Fall Line Technical College's South Campus celebrated the completion of their program this week with a pinning ceremony.

Pins are traditionally presented to the newly–graduated nurses by the faculty as a symbolic welcome into the profession.

Deal Signs Bill to Expand Access to Tech Schools

ATLANTA, GA -- At the Technical College System of Georgia 2013 Leadership Summit on April 24th, Gov. Nathan Deal signed into law legislation that will lower the GPA requirement for the HOPE Grant, which goes to students in the technical college system. By expanding access to the HOPE Grant, HB 372 will strengthen the state’s workforce development efforts.

Oconee RESA Offering Non-Traditional Teacher Preparation Program

Georgia TAPP is a non-traditional Educator Preparation Program that leads to clear and renewable certificates for non-traditonal educators and technical specliast teachers in  the careers, technology, and agriculture programs.  Georgia TAPP is for individuals from other job fields who wish to teach but did not complete a teach education program, and who have never held a teaching certificiate.

A news release states Oconee RESA is now serving the following school districts:  Baldwin, Bleckley, Dodge, Dublin City, Hancock, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Pulaski, Putnam, Telfair, Treutlen, Washington, Wheeler, Wilcox, Wilkinson.  For more information, visit the Oconee RESA website and click on Georgia TAPP.

478 Fund Promises to Promote New Ideas with Grants

Business leaders in Bibb county have started a new fund to help promote innovation and the cultivation of ideas.

It's called the "478 Bibb Fund." It works as a micro-grant organization and will give $1,000 to what the founder is calling "great ideas," according to a press release from the College Hill Alliance.

The micro-grant is open to all Central Georgia residents, and you can apply on the 478 Bibb Fund's website.

The 478 Bibb Fund stresses that any idea can be funded, and the founders just "want to help great ideas become a reality."

Fairview Park Hospital Recognized on Quality Honor Roll

Dublin's own Fairview Park Hospital made the honor roll.

They've been named on the Georgia Hospital Assocation's Partnership for Health and Accountability Core Measures Honor Roll, according to a release.

The hospital is one of 17 Georgia hospitals to be in the chairman's category, the highest on the list.
