13 DAYS OF GIVING: Carl Vinson VA Medical Center

Substituting your red and green for red, white and blue this Christmas is just one way you can help others celebrate the season.

The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin says you can give to them without spending a dime. They're asking for volunteers.

More than 250,000 veterans from all branches of the military walk through Carl Vinson's doors each year, and one major way that you can help this holiday season is by donating your time.

87-year-old Chandler Beasley has called Carl Vinson home for less than a year, but he knows he's found a good thing.

"I was prone to have attacks and I needed help, and people here have just been wonderful," said Beasley.

The former Marine served in World War II and spent time in the National Guard as well as the Marine Corps and Army, adding up to a total of 36 years serving our country.

"I'm a little bit surprised that I don't see more people here from the community than do," he said.

Proposed Plant Washington Hearing Tonight

A public hearing on pollution levels for proposed Plant Washington coal-fired plant will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at Ridge Road Elementary School.

The hearing subject is the water withdrawal permit and the water discharge permits (NPDES permit).

According to a news release, if Plant Washington is built, the water would be piped in 30 miles from the Oconee River and draw from 15 groundwater wells near the proposed plant site.

Much of the water drawn from the Oconee will be evaporated during the cooling process in the Ogeechee River Basin, therefore an Inter-Basin Transfer is taking place, which requires notice and public comment.

GSE is a coalition of energy, citizen and environmental organizations from across Georgia, including Washington County residents.

Proposed by Power4Georgians, LLC, the coal-fired power plant would be located near Sandersville in Central Ga.
