Social Security Offices Reduce Hours

As of Monday, Aug. 15, Social Security offices around Central Georgia will close to the public 30 minutes earlier.

Social Security offices on Riverside Drive and Second Street in Macon, as well as Central Georgia Social Security offices in Millegeville, Dublin and Warner Robins will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. instead of 3:30p.m.

According to a new elease, employees will still work their regularly scheduled hours, but closing to the public 30 minutes earlier will cut down on overtime hours and help make up a $1 billion shortfall in Social Security funding from the federal government this year.

Heat Advisory Through 7pm Tuesday

A Heat Advisory will remain in effect through 7pm tonight. Most of Central Georgia is included except Baldwin, Crawford, Hancock, Jones, Monroe, Putnam, and Taylor counties.

Dangerous heat is in store for us again today. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will make it feel between 105 and 115 degrees.

Here are a few heat safety tips.

1. Stay hydrated.

2. Wear light-weight, light-colored clothing.

3. Limit outdoor activity to the early morning and late evening, if possible. If not, take frequent breaks in the shade.

4. Keep a close eye on young children, the elderly, those with heart conditions, and pets.

It's Really Hot...

It's Really Hot...

I saw this sign while riding around town last week and made my husband turn around so I could take a picture! It’s funny, right? It may not be “hot as hell” like the sign implies, but temperatures have been hotter than normal for a while!

In June, we had 4 days where we hit 100+.

In July, we had 29 days with highs in the 90s and 18 of those days were 95 degrees or hotter.

So far this month, we have already hit the century mark twice!

Our average highs are in the lower 90s, so it’s not supposed to be THIS hot! Mother Nature has cranked up the heat this summer for us in addition to a good chunk of the country.

Dallas, Texas, has had 42 consecutive days of triple digits!

Memphis, Tennessee, is undergoing the hottest summer on record.

No real relief is in sight this week, so do your best to stay cool!  I’m using the hot weather as a good excuse to eat lots of ice cream J
