Dublin man arrested, charged with damaging church sign

Dublin man arrested, charged with damaging church sign

After an anonymous tip to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, Dublin police arrested a man and charged him with damaging the sign of Everlasting Gospel Church. The damage was discovered Tuesday, and investigators believe the damage happened sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. Clues at the scene led Bishop H.J. Sinclair to believe someone hit the sign with their car. Captain Zeke Hobbs with Dublin police says they went to check out the tip Wednesday morning, and sure enough, they found the car with damage that corresponded to the damage on the church's sign. Officers arrested 33-year-old Terry James Wynne of Dublin, and charged him with striking a stationary object, hit and run. The large sign and its brick base were both smashed, and what looked like parts of an automobile bumper were found among the debris. Bishop Sinclair estimated the damage at about $5,000.
